The Ball Mill is key equipment for grinding crushed materials. It is widely used in cement, silicate products, new building materials, refractories, fertilizers, black and non-ferrous metal beneficiation, and glass ceramics industries, for dry or wet grinding of various ores and other grindable materials. The Ball Mill is suitable for grinding various ores and other materials, widely used in beneficiation, building materials, chemical and other industries, available in dry and wet grinding modes. By discharge method, it can be divided into grid type and overflow type. A certain number of steel balls are loaded into the cylinder as grinding media. When the cylinder rotates, the grinding media are carried up by centrifugal force and friction, then fall to crush the material through the dual action of impact and grinding.

Working PrincipleWorking Principle

Feed

Material is continuously fed into the rotating cylinder through the feed device. The cylinder is pre-loaded with a certain quantity and gradation of steel balls as grinding media.

Lifting

The cylinder rotates at 60%-80% of critical speed. Steel balls are carried upward by centrifugal force and liner friction.

Falling Impact

When the steel balls reach a certain height, gravity overcomes centrifugal force and they fall in a parabolic trajectory, producing intense impact and grinding on the material to achieve crushing and pulverization.

Discharge

The ground material flows toward the discharge end driven by material level difference and airflow, discharged through the discharge device. Coarse particles are intercepted by the partition plate and returned for further grinding.

Selection AdviceSelection Advice

  1. Material Hardness: For Mohs hardness 6+ (iron ore, granite), recommend Φ2100 and above with high-chrome cast steel liners and larger diameter steel balls. For soft materials (limestone, coal), medium-small specs are optional.
  2. Capacity Requirements: For daily throughput under 200 tons, recommend Φ1500×3000 ~ Φ1830×4500. For thousand-ton daily output, recommend Φ2400×7000 and above, achieving stable single-unit output of 50-100 t/h.
  3. MQG vs MQY vs MQS: MQG grid type with forced discharge, suitable for coarse grinding and primary grinding. MQY overflow type with gravity discharge by material level difference, suitable for fine grinding. MQS wet type suitable for beneficiation processes, forming a closed circuit with classifier.
  4. Fineness & Cylinder Length: For coarse grinding (discharge 0.3-0.15mm), choose short cylinder (L/D≈1-1.5). For fine grinding (discharge <0.074mm), choose long cylinder (L/D>3), can beCoordination with classification equipment for ultra-fine grinding.
